California storms: Atmospheric rivers shrinking, experts say

Snow piled up in the Lake Tahoe area early Monday, prompting officials to warn of hazardous conditions for morning and evening commutes as parts of California and neighboring Nevada battled intense rain and snow.

Resorts in the popular ski region, including Soda Springs, received as much as 26 inches in the past 24 hours, while others, such as Sugar Bowl Resort, saw a proportionately modest 7 inches. More snow is expected throughout the afternoon, where a winter storm warning remains in effect until 10 p.m. local time, according to the National Weather Service.
