German Police have detained an Iranian national on suspicion of planning a terrorist attack, authorities in the country said on Sunday.
Police in the western city of Munster said the 32-year-old was believed to have procured unspecified quantities of the toxins cyanide and ricin in preparation for an “Islamist-motivated attack”.
The suspect was detained following an investigation by the North Rhine-Westphalia Central Terrorism Prosecution Service, a unit of the Dusseldorf prosecutor’s office, according to police.
Police recovered materials during a search of the suspect’s home in the town of Castrop-Rauxel, and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
Another person was also detained in connection with the case, the police said, without providing further details.
