The family of an American student studying in France is appealing for help to find him after they say they haven’t heard from him in more than two weeks.

Kenny DeLand Jr. is a student at St. John Fisher University in Rochester, N.Y., who studied at the University of Grenoble Alpes, according to his family.

The school is about 75 miles southeast of Lyon in eastern France.

DeLand’s parents say they haven’t heard from him since Nov. 27. “We’re just shaking our heads,” said his father, Ken DeLand, Sr. CNN affiliate WHAM. “We don’t understand why he’s not contacting us if he was contacting us every day or every other day like he was, it’s just not typical of Kenny.”

DeLand’s family helped find him launched a website where people can post tips and information. The family says a missing person’s report has been filed and bank records show Kenny DeLand Jr. last made a purchase at a store on Dec. 3. His whereabouts have not been reported since then, his family said.

“St. “John Fisher University will continue to do everything it can to assist in the search for Kenneth DeLand,” the school said in a statement.

“University officials are in close contact with the American Institute for Foreign Studies (AIFS), which is working with local law enforcement on the search, as well as with Kenneth’s family, to offer them support during this time. Our campus community remains hopeful that Kenneth will be found safe and return home.”

CNN has reached out to the US State Department and French authorities for more information on the manhunt.
