“I’m a servant. I love Virginia. I’m proud of what I’ve done,” Kane said in the release.

Kaine’s decision is a big relief for democrats who urged him to run and avoid the uncertainty of a newcomer in the 2024 election.

Republicans responded to Kaine’s statement by saying they would focus on recruiting the right candidate.

“Virginians have shown they are ready to vote Republican with the right candidate and the right political environment,” National Republican Senatorial Committee spokeswoman Maggie Abboud told Fox News Digital. “We will be watching Virginia closely and will focus on recruiting a strong candidate who can muster the necessary resources to compete.”

While Democrats performed better than expected in the 2022 midterm elections, the 2024 election cycle—where Democrats will defend themselves locations in several countries on the battlefield – can have a very different outcome.

Democrats will defend 23 of the 34 Senate seats next term. Of their 23 up-and-coming seats, seven are in states won by ex-pats President Trump in 2016 or 2020
